This weekend saw the historic Guyson Sandblaster Special on display, for the first time in years, on the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb stand, at Race Retro 2026.
Aptly named thanks to Guyson’s sponsorship, the Sandblaster Special enjoyed great success in its era. Designed and built by David Hepworth, he went on to drive the car to victory in the RAC British Hillclimb Championship, securing the title in 1971.
The Guyson Sandblaster Special is a truly unique and impressive machine, originally built from a 1960s Brabham Formula One car. It featured significant upgrades, including a Chevrolet V8 engine, a custom-designed gearbox and a four-wheel drive transfer case.
Not only did the Sandblaster Special attract lots of attention and become a hub for insightful conversations and shared passions, but Race Retro stood as the ultimate stage for all motorsport enthusiasts.
