Manufacturing Test & Commissioning Manager

The Test Manager will lead the testing, commissioning, and quality assurance activities for all equipment produced within the manufacturing facility. This role combines technical leadership, operational oversight, and customer‑facing responsibilities. While primarily based in-house, the Test Manager will also support field service operations, ensuring successful site acceptance, customer training, and high‑level troubleshooting when required.

The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement across testing processes, mentor and develop test engineers, and act as a key technical authority for both internal teams and customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and co-ordinate the activities of the test and commissioning team.
  • Plan and prioritise testing workloads to meet production schedules, quality standards, and delivery deadlines.
  • Develop and improve testing procedures, documentation, and quality controls.
  • Manufacturing Test & Commissioning ManagerProvide technical guidance to engineering, production, and service teams.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex testing or commissioning issues.

Testing & Commissioning Oversight

  • Oversee all Internal Testing and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of Guyson equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is tested in accordance with specifications, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Approve test results, documentation, and release of equipment for dispatch.
  • Lead Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities and ensure smooth handover to customers.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of test data, non‑conformances, and corrective actions.

Customer & Field Support

  • Support the Field Service Team with commissioning activities at customer sites, ensuring high standards of professionalism and technical competence.
  • Support the Field Service Department with complex breakdowns, service contracts, and customer escalations.
  • Deliver or oversee customer training on machine operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Represent the company professionally when dealing with customer personnel.

Technical & Operational Duties

  • Provide structured feedback to Engineering and Management to support product improvement.
  • Oversee mechanical and electrical assembly quality, including wiring, cable routing, and functional testing.
  • Support prototype builds and development projects, ensuring testability and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with all company procedures, safety standards, and quality systems.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and personal responsibility for quality.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Essential

  • City & Guilds or equivalent electro‑mechanical qualifications.
  • Strong background in testing, commissioning, and fault‑finding of complex equipment.
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
  • Methodical approach to system testing, diagnostics, and problem solving.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience with PLC/HMI systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with customers.
  • Self‑motivated, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Experience with robot control programming.
  • Background in continuous improvement or quality management.
  • Experience developing test procedures or commissioning frameworks.

This is a permanent position, subject to a 3 month trial period.

37.5 hour week
