Plastics, Rubber, Composites & Extrusions
Driven by advanced design, precision engineering, and state-of-the-art manufacturing, Guyson’s industry-leading surface finishing solutions are the go-to choice for numerous plastics, rubber, composites & extrusions finishing applications.
Plastics, Rubber, Composites & Extrusion Solutions
Guyson offer blast and ultrasonic equipment solutions for both the components produced and equipment used, when working with plastic, rubber, and composite mouldings and extrusions.
Blast In Action
- Manual blast cabinets are commonly utilised for cleaning without dimensional change of extrusion dies, as well as plastic and rubber moulds using Guyson’s Flexgrain soft iron bead
- Guyson Guyblast and Guyblast Cryogenic plastic blast medias are highly effective when deburring and deflashing plastic and rubber components
- Batch-orientated Tumbleblast machines carry out efficient deburring of thermoset plastic mouldings
- Guyson’s blast systems are also highly effective for lightly etching composites prior to painting
Ultrasonic Cleaning In Focus
- A UCR tank, paired with Guyson’s detergent cleaning solution, Formula HD, performs effective caustic cleaning of extrusion dies
- Guyson’s Formula PB is ideal for descaling water-cooled tooling components
- Ultrasonic cleaning is a highly effective method for not only removing release agents on mould tools but for also degreasing inserts
FAQs
Which blast finishing solutions are suitable for plastics and composites?
Guyson’s manual Euroblast shot blasting cabinets are ideal for cleaning plastic and rubber moulds without dimensional change. For batch processing, the automated Tumbleblast system is commonly used for deburring thermoset mouldings.
Can shot blasting be controlled for cosmetic finishing plastic components?
Yes, shot blasting parameters can be carefully controlled to achieve cosmetic finishes without damaging components.
Guyson offers free no obligation testing which we encourage you to take advantage of to verify your process. To arrange your free component testing, contact the team today.
How are extrusions cleaned using industrial cleaning systems?
Extrusions are cleaned and finished by ultrasonic cleaning, with the ultrasonic cavitation process able to remove contaminants such as grease, oils and metal debris. The finishing process can be completed by incorporating a rinse and dry stage, this is included in Guyson’s Microsolve Ultrasonic cleaning systems with a vapour rinse stage and freeboard drying stage included in the process.
How does ultrasonic cleaning remove mould release agents from plastic parts?
Ultrasonic cleaning is able to remove mould release agents from plastic parts through the cavitation process, the cleaning abrasive effect produced by cavitation is able to remove stubborn release agents from all parts of the plastic part.
Which surface finishing methods improve bonding of composite materials?
Shot blasting creates surface texture for improved adhesion, whilst ultrasonic cleaning removes contaminants to ensure consistent bonding performance.
Can ultrasonic cleaning be used on lightweight or flexible materials?
Yes, ultrasonic cleaning is able to be used on lightweight and flexible materials, although testing is recommended to confirm suitability.
