Natural Blast Media

Corn cob and granulated nut and fruit shells and kernels can be used for sensitive cleaning applications. Guyson Bicarbonate of Soda is manufactured specifically for impact blast finishing applications and is very soft and can be used for a number of blasting applications where more traditional blast media are not as well suited.

Health and Safety

    Loygrain

    Guyson Loygrain is a biodegradable, natural product, made entirely from the woody portions of corn cob. As well as having blast cleaning properties, the cob is absorbent and will remove light oil or fluid on the surface being treated. As the product is quite soft, there is little chance of damage to component substrates. It can also be used for non-blasting applications such as the removal of soils from marine turbines etc.

    Applications

    • Removal of corrosion and carbon from automotive components and electrical equipment.
    • Deflashing and cleaning without dimensional change.
    • Cleaning marine turbines.

    Walnut Shell

    Guyson walnut shell blast media is a biodegradable, natural product made entirely from ground or crushed walnut shells. As the product is relatively soft, there is little chance of damage to component substrates.

    Applications

        • Removal of corrosion and carbon from automotive components and electrical equipment
        • Deflashing, deburring and cleaning without dimensional change.
        • Cleaning marine turbines.
        • Removing paint and graffiti

        Bicarbonate of Soda

        Guyson Bicarbonate of Soda is manufactured specifically for impact blast finishing applications. It is a high purity, inorganic compound, with an angular shape that is very soft and can be used for a number of blasting applications where more traditional blast media are not as well suited. Damage to the surfaces being blasted is minimal but dust is instantly created as it decomposes upon impact and therefore cannot be recycled for even a second time. It is also soluble in water.

        Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3) is an extremely soft media (2.5 on a Mohs scale, talcum powder is 1 on the scale). This blast media cannot be recycled and is considered a one-pass blast media but can be used either dry or wet.

        Applications

        Light surface preparation. Cleaning of sensitive surfaces. Removal of coatings and contamination from metals (ferrous and non-ferrous), fibre glass and wood. Graffiti and smoke removal from structures and objects located in the open.

        • Removes paint, coatings, grease, oils, and surface corrosion from a variety of metals, alloys, plastics, wood, masonry and composites without surface damage or distortion.
